Companies in Lancashire need to perform strongly in terms of online marketing if they want to get noticed via the internet, a new study has suggested.
Research by the Internet Advertising Bureau Europe and InSites Consultancy found that web users are not interested in looking through several search engine results pages, which means a strong performance in search engine optimisation (SEO) is key.
It found that while over 40 per cent of people stop browsing such pages after the first ten results, 70 per cent also choose to give up after scanning 20 of the findings.
David Hollands-Hurst, an SEO consultant for advice firm Pixl8 Interactive, said a key issue for many firms during 2010 will be the concept of local search.
"From a commercial point of view if you are a local business, in order to target local people you have to make it clear from your website and to Google that you are in fact a local business in a particular region," he explained.
He added that real-time search is likely to be a bigger concept too.
Recent figures published by IMRG suggested that an online retail presence can also be important to companies, as £5.3 billion was spent through the internet during November.
