Athernet Web Solutions was set up in 2002 by Daniel Atherton and was originally based a short journey from Manchester in Chorley, Lancashire.

At the time the website design industry was still relatively young however the company focused on best practise and was one of the first to introduce various technical standards to their work which are only more recently being adopted by many other companies.

This focus on quality helped the company grow year on year with the team quickly expanding to eight core people working closely with over one hundred clients. Whilst maintaining a specialism in complex bespoke web development and e-commerce solutions the company also added expertise in visual website design and digital marketing to become a full-service digital agency.

In early 2010 Manchester-based Andrew Mercer Limited acquired a significant stake in the company. Daniel Atherton became managing director of Athernet Web Solutions and was joined on the board by co-directors Ajay and Mukesh Kapadia.

This signalled the beginning of a significant growth phase for the company which saw the move to much bigger offices in central Manchester and begin a recruitment drive to further grow the team of experts, clients and revenues over the next four years.
